Chapter

Fifteen

“Ash, have you seen my pills anywhere?” I ask, frantically searching through my bathroom cabinet, almost tearing out the contents to find them. This is the second time I’ve lost my pills. I blame it on the last three weeks.

“No, sorry. Have you checked your purse? Drawers in your bedroom, perhaps?”

“I checked my purse,” I reply, my frown deep as I scurry towards the drawers at my bedside where I find the pack. “Viola!” I shout, quickly taking a tablet and popping it into my mouth. As I take a swig of water, I try to wrack my brain as to whether I took my tablet yesterday but come up empty. I’m being so, so careless lately, and I don’t understand why.

“Are you okay?” Ash asks, cupping the back of my neck possessively. Everything he does lately is possessive in nature. As we walk, he leisurely holds my hand. If he sees another guy even glancing in my direction, the hand he has firmly in his grip loosens, and he snakes his arm around me, pulling me in close. It’s subtle, but I notice, and instead of getting angry, I smile. Strange really, considering I should be pissed off with him. I mean, seriously … he really thinks after the multiple orgasms he manages to retrieve from me on a daily basis that I could be stolen by anyone else? Despite him probably knowing this, he still does it, and despite how annoying it should be, it isn’t. Instead, my heart pitter-patters inside my chest, my body warming at the knowledge that he wants, needs, and loves me this much. It’s a stupid, naïve, and quite juvenile notion, but one that’s there nonetheless.

“I’m fine,” I reply to his question as he nips my bottom lip. Despite it only being an hour since we had sex, my body quivers from that small gesture. “I’m just annoyed at myself because I always put the tablets in my bathroom cupboard, so I can’t explain why they’re in my bedside drawer.”

Ash pushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his eyes roaming my face like he’s studying a piece of art. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, baby. It’s quite easy to grab the packet while in a hurry, take one, then dump it someplace else without realising. Everyone does things like that. I once went to find my shoes in the shoe cupboard, and I found my socks instead.”

I snicker at the thought, staring at him wide-eyed. “I’m actually scared to ask, but where were your shoes?”

“Thankfully, not in the sock drawer. I mean, that would have been a bit too much. For some reason they were under my bed.” He grinds his erection into my groin. “Can’t we pull a sickie today?”

Laughing, I push him away. “You did that yesterday, and I’m not willing to. Everyone has to help Lisa considering she’s still a man down.”

It’s been over a week since the nightclub, and almost every night since, Ash has been at my place, hiding away from the inevitable.
